    Mediterranean Diet Basics

    Studies have shown that following the Mediterranean lifestyle can lead to weight loss, improved heart health, and a reduced risk of chronic diseases.

    So here are the BASICS:


    Eat tons of veggies and fruits


    Eat healthy, whole grains


    Eat healthy fats (olive oil, avocado, fatty fish like salmon)


    Yes, eat fish! 2-3 times a week (if this is not for you, take fish oil supplements)


    Eat chicken once or twice a week


    Eat beef, pork, or other red meat once or twice a month (ok, this was a little hard)


    Drink alcohol in moderation (preferably red wine)


    Limit your sweets and junk food


    Snack on healthy things like veggie sticks, hummus, nuts and olives


    Avoid processed foods


    MOVE – yes get some exercise, but you don’t have to go wild. Enjoy it!


    Sleep!


    And a big key, have a good social life. Eat with friends. Have people over. Laugh.


    And repeat!
